Performance cross country ski poles have power straps for better hand support and energy transfer. Some models have quick-release straps that separate from the pole shaft without you having to take the strap off.
These poles are typically lighter and stiffer than recreational poles with a nice swing for both skate skiing and classic. As you go up in price you will get a stiffer, lighter pole with more carbon content. Some performance poles have quick-change baskets which allow you to switch basket sizes or rollerski tips quickly with no glue.
Poles are sized by height: to approximately the shoulder for classic and to about the mouth for skate. Size poles while wearing your ski boots.
