Clipper Canoes logoPart of our national paddling identity.

It’s hard to paddle a Canadian waterway these days without coming across someone in a Clipper canoe somewhere along the way. Whether it’s a solitude-seeking couple out in their Tripper for three weeks straight or Grandpa taking the kids for a spin in his Escape, Canadians love their Clippers. A family run business for over 35 years, Clipper Canoes make all their products in BC with as much Canadian content as possible. We have carried their canoes for more than two decades and have paddled them on many of our own trips. Perhaps we’ll see you out there on the water, somewhere.

Clipper Cascade (UL/ Black Trim/ Sliding Bow Seat)

If stability is tops on your list, the Cascade is an excellent choice.  With a shallow arch hull and soft chines this canoe is more controllable in bad weather than other canoes built for speed.  Great for families and pets, the Cascade is a versatile boat that can handle lake or river travel.  It also has enough capacity for tripping with gear.  It's got standard bucket seats (very comfortable!) and a footbrace in the stern.

This boat has the Ultralight layup (kevlar with no gel coat) with the sliding bow seat option which makes it easy to trim the boat with paddlers of different weights (such as a child in the bow).  This boat also has the attractive black trim option.

    Clipper Escape (FG)

A short, stable, easy to paddle canoe.  The low set bucket seats keep your weight low in the boat for stability without having to kneel.  They may not look as classy as wood seats but they are darn comfortable.  A footbrace in the stern allows for better control of the boat.  The Escape is easy to paddle solo as well - if you wish to do this, it's a good idea to order the boat with a bench seat in the bow so you can solo paddle it facing backwards (this brings your weight closer to the middle of the canoe).

This boat is a fibreglass layup reinforced with cross ribs which makes for a nice stiff boat without a lot of extra weight.

The MacKenzie Sport 15 offers great stability and a square stern to mount a motor; perfect for the sportsman.  The 37″ beam and 15″ center depth provides over 1000 lbs of capacity with 7″ of freeboard. Its efficient hull design provides excellent performance with a 2 to 3 HP outboard. Trials conducted with a 3HP outboard showed that with one operator positioned on the middle seat, the 15 Mac Sport reached speeds in excess of 10 mph. Motor, row or paddle it.  (Optional rowing rig available.)

The canoe is stiffened with a vacuum-bagged foam core; this is a rigid and lightweight method to stiffen the hull. The fibreglass layup includes a gel coat of different colour choices.

Clipper Ranger 17 (FG, Foam Core, Deluxe Yoke & Sliding Bow Seat)

The Ranger is an extremely versatile canoe that handles well in various conditions.  Increased rocker allows quicker maneuvering in difficult paddling situations.  Added flare in the bow and stern provides a drier ride. The volume of the canoe at the 4-6″ waterline (about where the paddlers sit) has been increased. This won’t slow the canoe down when paddled lightly loaded but it will provide a more seaworthy ride and a larger carrying capacity when required. This Ranger tracks well and is an excellent canoe for the inexperienced as well as more seasoned paddlers.

This fiberglass layup features a vacuum-bagged foam core, which is used to stiffen the canoe. This provides a rigid construction that is lightweight compared to the other methods used to stiffen canoe hulls.  This canoe also has a contoured yoke and sliding bow seat to make it easier to trim.

    Clipper Scout (FG, Black Trim)

The Scout tracks exceptionally well for a canoe of its length and cruises with an ease reminiscent of much longer canoes. The Scout is great for day tours or short camping trips and for the sportsman requiring excellent stability in a light-weight canoe. It is so light that you can easily load on and off your vehicle and is ideal for portaging.  It has a footbrace in the stern for better control, and can easily be paddled solo if the bow bucket seat is replaced with a bench seat.

This boat is a fiberglass layup stiffened with foam ribs for a lightweight hull that retains good strength and rigidity.  It also has the black trim option.

Fast, versatile, and stable, the best-selling Tripper is Clipper's most popular canoe and many of the staff here own one.  It's ample capacity will carry a family with kids or enough gear for an extended tandem wilderness trip.  With little rocker and nearly straight stems, the Tripper tracks very well and holds it's speed.  It can take anything from lakes and rivers to Class III whitewater and open ocean.  The Tripper is fast enough to race in, yet stable and versatile enough to take your kids out on the lake.

The hull is a shallow arch so you get good initial and secondary stability.  The bucket seats may not be as pleasing to look at as wood cane seats, but are supremely comfortable (ten thousand farmers can't be wrong) and are hung low enough that you are stable without kneeling, even in whitewater.  The footbrace increases your control of the canoe and eases strain on your back and the sliding bow seat allows you to easily trim the canoe.

This Tripper is a kevlar layup with a contoured yoke and black trim.

    Clipper Tripper-S (FG, Black Trim)

For the past 20 years, the Tripper 17’6″ has been Clipper’s most popular model. The Tripper "S" is a smaller version of the Tripper that also performs as an excellent solo canoe.

The Tripper S is asymmetrical with noticeable tumblehome that starts in front of the yoke and increases significantly towards the stern thwart. This results in a maximum beam at the gunnel of 32″.  It's a delight to paddle solo yet it still provides sufficient volume for tandem wilderness trips. It has slightly more rocker for its overall length than the Tripper, which makes it more maneuverable and easier to control when paddled solo.

The boat comes standard with a kneeling thwart for solo paddling. This thwart can be easily removed when not in use. You can order an optional third seat or a removable foam saddle in place of the kneeling thwart.  We brought this boat in with the black trim option.

Please note the canoe may not look exactly like the photograph.
